Last Saturday was witness to another movie on the Ugandan shelf. Kiwani: The Movie got a red carpet movie premiere at the prestigious Speke Resort Munyonyo and like the cards read in part, a good number of guests tried to fit in with the formal (glamorous) dress code. By six o’clock guests began trickling to a red carpet entrance and made a two-hour stop over for drinks and snacks.
As the hours rolled, so did the drinks and it was not until about 8p.m that guests were ushered to take their seats in the Victoria ballroom where the movie was screened. Kiwani: The Movie which stars diva Juliana Kanyomozi, Allan Tumusiime and Hannington Bugingo as main characters, takes its storyline around the several shady deals, greed, backstabbing, lies and romance.
It basically mirrors life of Kampala people in a hilarious way. Thus it offers more of an entertaining story woven with humour than a gripping story than would keep you at the edge of your seat.
It managed to remain Ugandan in every sense of the word with a creditable ender, thus drawing thunderous applause from the guests.
Thus it had its effect on the audience who applauded when the last credits were done.
The cast had a chance to share their experiences in the making of the movie that among others attracted the likes of Sudhir Ruparelia who bought a DVD at $1,500, celebrities, Lalani Sikander who bought an autographed portrait (by Juliana Kanyomozi) of the major actors at Shs2 million and Orient Bank’s Shahar Maiden who bought a DVD at $1,000.
Several celebrities and media personalities were part of the close to 1,000 guests that turned up. When the talking was done, the bar was re-opened for an after party as drinks flowed courtesy of sponsors Nile Breweries and Mirinda pineapple, ushering people into Sunday morning. The movie will be showing to the public at National Theatre this weekend.
