Hip-hop stars flow with B.I.G ryhmes at Notorious premiere
The Myth at the Premier PHOTOS BY EDGAR R. BATTE

EDGAR R. BATTE Notorious, a movie that commemorates the life of rapper Notorious B.I.G (Christopher Wallace), premiered at Cineplex Cinema on Thursday. But before the cinema sitting, the largely middle-aged guests were treated to a party fittingly characterised by performances by the top Hip-hop artistes who shared their slice of inspiration from one of the gifted rappers of the past decade. Klear Kut’s The Myth, who attracted the nickname of Biggie Smalls, rhymed to songs by the fallen East Coast rap icon whose lyrics brought to light the realities of inner city violence. That was before GNL Zamba, Navio and Unique came on to share their side, flowing to BIG’s songs like Juicy, Sky’s The Limit, Hypnotise and Mo Money Mo Problems that made the rap star who passed away at a tender age of 24 an envy in the industry that had defined his lifestyle and made him a pin-up. Jam Agenda’s, J. Kazoora was the evening’s emcee. The movie screened at 7p.m; telling a story that brings to life the account of a young boy who cultivated an interest in rap at a tender age. Raised by a single mother, Christopher drops out of school and turns to the streets as a hustler dealing in drugs - a trade that eventually ends with him being locked up. That’s the turning point that leads to him chasing his musical dream that makes him the trailblazer of rap music in the East coast. In the success story, Sean Puffy Combs is in the picture as producer, friend and right hand man. As his talent begins paying off, the women seem an inevitable addition to Biggie’s life and it’s here that Lil Kim, a girl he interests off the streets, comes into his life, later on becoming the drama ‘bitchy’ queen when he finally settles with Faith Evans. You won’t get answers on who was behind the intrigue that blotted both camps, the East and West coast, to go against each other but from the movie, it should have been a set-up by someone from one of the camps that saw two rap gems end their dreams right at the doors of bigger fortunes.
