DJ Styles, Raba Daba light up Utake night
Kenya’s DJ Styles of Code Red. PHOTOS BY EDGAR R. BATTE

When he got on stage to get his machines in place before he could get the party rocking, DJ Styles of Kenya’s Code Red could have passed for another reclusive guy but when he began doing his thing, the crowd could not hold back. They cheered, danced and sang to popular hits as the celebrated spin master mixed the best collection of hit songs from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, breathing more life in the monthly Uganda Waragi sponsored Utake night. Uganda’s new dancehall sensation Raba Daba opened for DJ Styles with his true raggamuffin skills and lyrics. He sampled his verse from the monster hit Mr DJ that he did several other artistes and Ability that he did with Radio Weasel before performing his songs like Sirubala and Bwekili putting the revelleres into a boogie mood. Kenyans held their flag high as DJ Styles played music from their motherland. And they just didn’t dance, but whenever DJ Styles muted the songs, they sang out the lines in unison - true party, patriotic animals, you could say. And for the Ugandan revellers, songs like Ability by Mowzey Radio, Weasel and Raba Daba, Ayokyayokya by Cindy, Bebe Cool’s Bogola Ko, Jose Chameleone’s Vumilia among others, got the crowd excited. As for DJ Styles, engaging the crowd is one of the things that make him tick and whenever he could, he spared a few seconds from his turn table to dance with fans.
