About Uganda

Uganda lies between the eastern and western arms of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, where the West African Jungle forests meet the East African Savannah. The country shares borders with South Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, Lake Victoria to the southeast, Tanzania and Rwanda to the south and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the west. Whilst the landscape is generally quite flat, most of the country is over 1,000m (3,280ft) in altitude. The country’s highest point is on top of Mt. Rwenzori at 5109m above sea level whereas its lowest point is at L. Albert at 610m above sea level. Lake Kyoga and the Victoria Nile form a rough boundary between Nilotic and Sudanic language speakers in the north and the Bantu speakers in the south. However, many Ugandans have undergone an assimilation process in many parts of the country thus enabling most people to ably speak more than one language.
