Gorilla eco-tourism was introduced in Bwindi in order to conserve and protect this endangered species of the great apes and to generate revenue for the government and the local people.
Since then Uganda has been recommending six visitors per group to enhance tourism rules and regulations that guide gorilla tourism mainly based on reducing the risk of disease transmission to the gorillas whilst protecting the apes for sustainability.
All along Uganda Wildlife Authority had been monitoring and evaluating the impact of taking 6 visitors per group and their have been no records of detrimental nature.
On the other hand, no negative impact has been reported. It’s on this note therefore that Uganda decided to increase the number of people visiting the gorillas to eight excluding guides from 4 to 2 that again is sufficient.
