Uganda Airlines has announced two new scheduled routes to Accra, Ghana and Kigali, Rwanda, marking another step in the airline’s regional expansion. The new services will strengthen connections between East and West Africa while giving travelers more direct travel options from Entebbe.
According to the airline, flights to Accra will begin on 27 October 2026 while daily flights to Kigali will start on 18 November 2026. The new routes are part of Uganda Airlines’ long-term plan to expand its network across Africa and improve connectivity through Entebbe International Airport.
Uganda Airlines first operated as the country’s national carrier from 1977 until it ceased operations in 2001 due to financial challenges. After nearly two decades without a national airline, the Government of Uganda revived Uganda Airlines in 2019. Commercial operations officially resumed on 28 August 2019 beginning with regional routes that connected Entebbe to Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Juba, Mogadishu, Kilimanjaro, Mombasa and Bujumbura. Since then, the airline has gradually expanded both its regional and international network.
Uganda Airlines’ route network
Since relaunching, Uganda Airlines has introduced several new destinations within Africa and beyond. The airline now operates flights to major cities across East, Central, Southern and West Africa as well as selected international destinations. Its established network includes:
- Nairobi and Mombasa in Kenya
- Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar in Tanzania
- Juba in South Sudan
- Mogadishu in Somalia
- Bujumbura in Burundi
- Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo
- Johannesburg in South Africa
- Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria
- Lusaka in Zambia
- Harare in Zimbabwe
- Dubai in the United Arab Emirates
- Mumbai in India
- London Gatwick in the United Kingdom
Uganda Airlines will begin direct flights between Entebbe and Accra on 27 October 2026. The airline plans to operate the route four times each week using its Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The new service creates Uganda Airlines’ first direct connection to Ghana and expands its presence in West Africa. The route is expected to benefit business travelers, government officials, students and tourists traveling between Uganda and Ghana. It also provides another connection point for passengers traveling within West Africa.
On 18 November 2026, Uganda Airlines will introduce daily scheduled flights between Entebbe and Kigali. Although Uganda and Rwanda share a border, direct scheduled flights on the route have largely been operated by RwandAir in recent years. Uganda Airlines’ entry into the market will provide travelers with additional flight choices and greater scheduling flexibility. The short flight is expected to support business travel, tourism, regional meetings and family visits between the two neighboring countries.

- The Rwenzori Mountains.
- Jinja, the source of the River Nile.
The new routes may also encourage more Ugandan travelers to visit Ghana and Rwanda while making multi-country itineraries across Africa easier to plan. The airline’s route expansion comes as Uganda Airlines continues to invest in its fleet.
In 2026, the carrier announced its first direct aircraft purchase from Boeing ordering four Boeing 737-8 aircraft and four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. These aircraft are expected to support future regional and long-haul expansion as passenger demand continues to grow.
