Uganda National Bureau Of Standards (UNBS)

Maintaining good standard and quality of products and services produced and sold in the country is highly recommended and enforced and UNBS is the body in charge. It is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and CO-operatives established and guided by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and started operations in 1989.
The UNBS is governed by the National Standards Council and headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of UNBS. The main objectives of the UNBS include;

Formulation and promotion of the use of standards
Enforcing standards in protection of public health and safety and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products
Ensuring fairness in trade and precision in industry through reliable measurement systems
Strengthening the economy of Uganda by assuring the quality of locally manufactured products to enhance the competitiveness of exports in regional and international markets.

The work done by the UNBS is such of a high value and significance that it directly protects both the final consumers and the importers of the Ugandan made products from sub standard products that can turn out to be harmful to their health and the environment in general.
